Hawkscroft Bespoke Sash Windows
The sliding box sash window originated in England in the 17th Century, the design coming from a time when town and city streets were narrow and windows that opened outwards could easily interfere with buildings opposite. The “Yorkshire sash” as it is more commonly known is a self-contained horizontally sliding window with counter balanced weights that allow for ease of opening.
Many original sliding sash windows survive to this day especially in Listed Buildings and other buildings of note however a great many have suffered the rigours of time and are in need of repair or replacement. Sliding sash windows are also favoured by architects and clients alike and used in new build properties and extensions to period buildings.
Hawkscroft supply and fit new and replacement sliding sash windows of all sizes to order. Our sash windows are made in the traditional way and are fitted with fasteners and lifters either in brass or other materials from an extensive range of fittings.
